What does it mean to press in for healing…for a miracle…but continue with the diet that made us sick in the first place?

The Garden’s Best Project began this year when Cal began asking questions.  Why did he not get upper respiratory infections when his wife Michelle did? In looking at his daily choices, he realized he had a morning juice with added supplements like protein powder while Michelle did not. It seemed to him that his immune system was being strengthened with the nutrients in the juice. That’s when he asked me if I would like to work with him on a juice product that would strengthen the immune system. Garden’s Best Juice Powder was born.

The message of health and healing is the passion of my heart. My father was a healing evangelist. I know about pressing in for miracles and healing. My miracles began when I was two with bulbar polio, my father’s prayer for healing, and answered prayer.

I have known hopelessness with a crushed right hand and a top hand surgeon saying I’d never use that hand again. A burglar attack with a pipe left me nearly dead with two crushed discs in my neck and two knuckles of my right hand reduced to powder and bone fragments. (You can read my story at www.juiceladycherie.com)  My neck was healed. My right hand was also healed…miraculously, knuckles reformed, and I have full use of my hand today. I BELIEVE IN MIRACLES.

I also recovered from chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and fibromyalgia the year before the attack, but healing came in a different way. I discovered the power of diet changes and juicing fresh vegetables and fruit. In three months my body was completely healed and all the devastating symptoms were gone.

Several years after I had recovered from CFS and fibromyalgia, I had a vision where I saw many of God’s soldiers lying on the battlefield with their armor askew. They were holding their heads, sides, backs, knees.and more. Labels were written across their bodies—heart disease, cancer, diabetes, migraines…on and on. I heard God say, “Teach my people how to care for their bodies. They are sick because of their own lifestyle choices.” I felt directed to go to graduate school to get a master of science degree in whole foods nutrition so I could be a credible source of information.

I Corinthians 3:17 says, “If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.” Much of the typical American diet of pre-made packaged foods, refined foods, snack foods, junk food, and fast food are making people sick. It is defiling the temples.

I had a conversation with someone recently about a 99-year old woman who had lived a healthy life all her years.  She was still in her home on her farm planting a garden when she was about to become a centenarian. Suddenly she started feeling sick. She went to doctors for all sorts of tests trying to figure out what was wrong with her. The doctors couldn’t find anything wrong with her. When her grandchildren came to help her, they opened the refrigerator and it was filled with packaged foods. They asked Grandma why she had changed her diet from the food she had always made, which consisted of a lot of produce from her garden. She said she was tired of cooking just for herself. They told her they thought it was her diet changes and all those pre-made foods that were making her sick. When she returned to her home cooking, she got well. She lived a healthy life to the age of 102.

This story exemplifies what I teach. What we eat has a profound effect on our health. Decades ago people never suffered from the debilitating diseases they do today. What changed? The food we eat. And just like the grandmother who changed her diet to packaged foods, our nation has become sicker and sicker as we’ve changed from eating real food from the earth to fast food, packaged food, and junk food along with big business agriculture that uses pesticides and does not care for the health of the soil. Years ago no one ate Twinkies, doughnuts, candy bars, chips, soda pop, or packaged cereal.

Returning to basics of the garden and the natural foods God created has been a healing journey  for me and for many people I’ve worked with. Most of the life-threatening diseases in this nation such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, stroke,and high blood pressure are diet related. These are diseases of excesses and deficiencies. Are drugs the answer? Just ask a friend of mine. Her husband was given a new cholesterol-lowering drug, which he took for several months. He got sicker and sicker until he could barely talk. He started falling. He developed severe charlie horse-type pains throughout his entire body. They traveled, sometimes showing up in his head or neck, chest, or legs. They were excruciatingly painful. He told his wife he felt that he was dying. And for what was this drug given to him? Cholesterol is not the issue with heart disease. The Wynn Institute of London found that as many people die from heart disease that have low cholesterol as have high cholesterol. Inflammation is the cause and the answer is an anti-inflammation diet. The markers are:

  • C-Reactive Protein (CRP)
  • Serum Ferritin
  • Fibrinogen
  • Homocysteine
  • Interleukin-6
  • Lipoprotein(a) or Lp(a)

As I’ve talked with Cal, we are more aware than ever that the healing ministry must be about both supernatural healing and natural healing joining together. This does not mean in any way that we give more glory to nutrition than to God. It’s all from God.  God created these beautiful foods for our health and healing. We’ve just lost our way, lured by manufacturers and tempted by our taste buds, addicted by sugar and chemicals poured into manufactured foods.

Imagine how Henry Ford would have felt if people put moonshine in his model Ts instead of gasoline. People would have had all sorts of car troubles and would have blamed him for their car problems. If you use the wrong fuel for your car and continue to have car troubles, would you argue with the mechanic when he told you that the fuel you were using was the wrong kind? A friend told me the story of a businessman friend of his who was rushing to a meeting and by mistake put diesel fuel in his car. The car died on the freeway.

Are you willing to remove the foods that interfere with your healing? I have a friend who fell and severely injured her knee cap. The prognosis for healing sounded discouraging and the convalescent time long. We prayed and she ate the foods that promoted healing and avoided the stuff that would interfere with the healing process. Recently her doctor said she was healing ahead of his predicted schedule. What an example of partnership with God!

Think about healing this way. What if you were digging down in a hole, looking for a buried treasure, but someone at the top  of that hole kept shoveling dirt down into the spot where you were working? You would spend most of your day throwing that dirt back out of the hole, You would have very little time to get to the work of uncovering the treasure. It’s like that with our bodies often times. The body tries to work on repair of damaged tissues and removal of what has made us sick. Yet it can’t get to its work because we keep pouring foods and drinks into the body that require a large portion of time to deal with digestion and detoxication of those substances. It doesn’t have much time leftover for repair and rejuvenation.

Jesus asked the man by the Pool of Siloam, “Do you want to be made whole?” (John 5:6) How much do we want to get well? The lure of small daily “feel good” moments often overtake our desire to do our part to be whole.

I encourage you to take the leap of faith and make the changes needed to get well. Do you want to be healed? You can be healed. But with most of the degenerative diseases of modern day like diabetes, arthritis, cancer, and heart disease, we must do our part to get well. We must remove the foods that cause ill health and give the body super nutrition so it can have the raw materials it needs to use in the efforts of healing.

We are asked to partner with God in the healing process. This is the marriage of the natural and the supernatural. WHEN YOU PUT THESE TWO TOGETHER, YOU CAN BE MADE WHOLE.

Our Journey to Garden’s Best

Cal called early in 2016 to discuss how to build up the immune system and help people find health. As we talked about product possibilities, we discussed our vision with Jordan Rubin, founder of Garden of Life.
